Snacks, Snacks, Snacks!

This healthy recipe is a great snack but just sweet enough to be a dessert, too!

As a dietitian, one of the biggest things I stress is just how important it is to have snacks! Snacks are what I like to call the “stepping stones” between your meals. They are there to make sure you don’t get too hungry and end up overeating later on. Snack time also provides an awesome opportunity to get some extra healthy nutrients in from food like fruit, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains. This snack packs in some of those nutrients to give you a boost of energy when you need it to tide you over until your next meal! Plus, who doesn’t enjoy a sweet, midday treat?

The 411 on Tahini

These tasty treats are full of scrumptious flavor and satisfying texture.

Tahini is a sesame seed paste that is often found in hummus, as well as other Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Asian cuisines. It is full of healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals such as vitamin B, phosphorus, and manganese. Tahini also contains lignans, which are antioxidants that help prevent free radical damage in your body and may reduce your risk of chronic diseases. You can even make your own tahini by toasting sesame seeds in a skillet and then grinding them in a food processor until smooth.

Roll Up These Tahini Bliss Balls

Eat one of these bliss balls whenever you need some energy!

Make these simple bliss balls in just 3 easy steps! First, add all of the ingredients (except for shredded coconut) into a food processor and blend until smooth. If the mixture is too dry, add about one tablespoon of water and blend until just combined. be sure to add only a little bit at a time so the “dough” doesn’t get to sticky. Next, roll the blended mixture into 1” balls and then roll each ball in the shredded coconut to coat the outside. Place the bliss balls into an airtight container and refrigerate for about an hour, or until set. You can store them in the fridge for 4 to 5 days, or freeze them for up to 2 weeks! But chances are good you’ll eat them all way before then anyway. Enjoy!
